Individual Moves-FAQs

During our 50 years of operations we have found that most people encounter the same sort of problems and confusions during their relocation. If you have a confusion that requires expert advice, here is help for you.

When should I call the moving company?
The earlier, the better (usually four to six weeks notice, if possible). Armstrong Relocation can help you develop a move plan. Our vast experience and expertise will save you time and money. The more lead-time you can give us, the more likely we will be able to meet your specific delivery schedule.

Do I need an estimate?
Yes! Every household is unique. It is very important to have Armstrong Relocation arrange for a pre-move survey as soon as possible. This survey is needed to determine the approximate cost of the move and the van space your goods will occupy. A written estimate/ order for service will be provided to you.

How are my household's goods and personal items insured during transit?
Industry regulation requires carrier's liability at $.60 per pound per item. Additional coverage is available on a per quote basis. The Armstrong Relocation representative will discuss those options with you durinig your pre-move survey.

How is my move scheduled?

Typically the crew will be at your home between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. If they should run into any difficulty they will call you immediately. The driver should contact you at least 24 hours prior to delivery.

How long will it take to move my goods?
A typical household shipment will require one day to pack, one day to load and the delivery will require a spread of dates that are determined by the weight and distance of the shipment. The Armstrong Relocation representative will give you an estimated delivery spread once they have completed their pre-move survey.

How does the driver keep track of my goods?
All items in your home will be inventoried on load day. Each Item is numbered and a brief description of the condition is listed on the inventory sheet. On delivery, you will check off each corresponding number as the each item enters your home.

What can I expect on delivery?
Upon arrival at destination, the driver will provide you with an "Inventory Control Form". Each item is checked off as it is delivered. If necessary any loss or damage is noted on the driver's copy in the section called "Exceptions on Delivery". These observations will serve to substantiate a claim should you have reason to submit one.

How will the movers handle our appliances?
Armstrong Relocation contracts with a third party service company to disconnect, prepare items for shipment and reconnect appliances at destination.

How are large paintings and other artwork protected during transit?
Armstrong Relocation contracts with a third party service company to build individual crates to protect these types of items. Your Armstrong representative will obtain the dimensions of these items during the pre-move survey. Crates are built at residence. The third party service company will also be responsible to uncrate items at destination.

How do you protect the items being relocated?
Each moving van is equipped with moving pads, shrink wrap, and decking bars allowing your shipment to be properly wrapped, strapped and secured before transit.

What size truck will you use?
Armstrong Relocation has one of the largest fleets of trucks in the United Van Lines system. We will assign the right equipment, be it a tractor-trailer or bobtail, based on estimated weight and accessibility of residence at origin and destination.

How many persons will you have on the move?
Size of crew is determined by the estimated weight of the shipment from the pre-move survey.

Will we need to be present during the entire move?
An adult representative must be present at both origin and destination to answer any questions, which may occur during the move, and sign inventory sheets for liability purposes.

Can my possessions be stored temporarily?
If you are unable to take possession of your new residence, your goods will be placed in storage. There will be an additional charge for daily storage, warehouse handling, final delivery charges and valuation/ insurance on your shipment. Please advise your Armstrong Relocation representative if you think you might require storage.
